  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or tofu.
  • 4 cups cabbage Sliced; bok choy or napa cabbage can be used.
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free.
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar Apple cider vinegar is a good substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce Check for gluten-free versions.
  • sriracha To taste; optional.
  • salt & black pepper To taste.
  • 2 stalks green onions Chopped; for garnish.
  • toasted sesame seeds Optional but recommended for garnish.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Add 1 sliced onion, 2 minced garlic cloves, and 1 tablespoon of grated ginger. Sauté for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Incorporate 1 pound of ground beef into the skillet. Brown for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks.
  4. Stir in 4 cups of sliced cabbage, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce, and sriracha to taste. Toss to coat.
  5. Cook for an additional 5–7 minutes until cabbage is tender but still has a crunch.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
  7. Serve warm on its own or over rice or noodles.
