- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and chopped onions for 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease.
- Stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add cream of mushroom soup and milk/heavy cream to the skillet. Stir until smooth and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Thinly slice potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick and layer half in the greased baking dish.
- Spread half of the beef mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
- Layer with remaining potato slices, beef mixture, and cheese. Finish with a layer of potatoes and extra cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes until potatoes are fork-tender.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until top is golden and bubbly.
- Cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow layers to set.
