Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and chopped onions for 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add cream of mushroom soup and milk/heavy cream to the skillet. Stir until smooth and cook for 2 more minutes.
  5. Thinly slice potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick and layer half in the greased baking dish.
  6. Spread half of the beef mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  7. Layer with remaining potato slices, beef mixture, and cheese. Finish with a layer of potatoes and extra cheese.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes until potatoes are fork-tender.
  9. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow layers to set.
