- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather your ingredients.
- Whip the egg whites in a large mixing bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add the superfine sugar, one tablespoon at a time, until stiff peaks develop.
- Sift together the all-purpose flour and one tablespoon of sugar into a bowl. Fold this mixture into the whipped egg whites in batches.
- Fold in the vanilla extract, freshly squeezed orange juice, and orange zest.
- Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
- Invert the tube pan onto a cooling rack immediately. Let it cool upside down for about an hour.
- Run a knife around the edges to loosen the cake, then slice and serve with whipped cream and fresh berries if desired.
