Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather your ingredients.
  2. Whip the egg whites in a large mixing bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add the superfine sugar, one tablespoon at a time, until stiff peaks develop.
  3. Sift together the all-purpose flour and one tablespoon of sugar into a bowl. Fold this mixture into the whipped egg whites in batches.
  4. Fold in the vanilla extract, freshly squeezed orange juice, and orange zest.
  5. Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
  7. Invert the tube pan onto a cooling rack immediately. Let it cool upside down for about an hour.
  8. Run a knife around the edges to loosen the cake, then slice and serve with whipped cream and fresh berries if desired.
