Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add eggs or applesauce, mix well, then add buttermilk, orange juice, and orange zest.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely.
