Equipment

  • microwave-safe bowl
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Ziploc Bag
  • spatula
  • parchment paper

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by placing 1 cup of blue candy melts and 1 tablespoon of butter or coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the mixture is fully melted and smooth—this should take about 1-2 minutes.
  2. While the blue candy melts are melting, pour ½ cup of powdered sugar into a large Ziploc bag.
  3. Once the blue candy is smooth, pour it over 1 cup of Rice Chex in a large mixing bowl. Use a spatula to gently stir the cereal, ensuring every piece is evenly coated in the melted candy.
  4. Carefully transfer the coated Rice Chex into the prepared Ziploc bag with powdered sugar. Seal the bag, then shake vigorously until the cereal is well coated. Spread the powdered sugar-coated Chex onto parchment paper and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  5. Repeat the melting process using 1 cup of red candy melts with another tablespoon of butter or coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals until fully melted and smooth.
  6. Pour the melted red candy over another 1 cup of Rice Chex in a mixing bowl. Stir again to coat the cereal thoroughly.
  7. Combine both the blue and red coated Chex in a large mixing bowl with 1 cup of yogurt-covered pretzels, 1 cup of M&M's, and ½ cup of yogurt-covered raisins. Gently toss everything together until well mixed.
  8. Transfer the 4th of July snack mix to a large serving bowl or festive containers. Serve immediately.
