Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Mascarpone is a great substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar Reduce for less sweetness.
  • 1 cup Strawberries Swap with blueberries or peaches.
For the Sandwich
  • 4 slices Bread White or brioche; whole grain can be used.
  • 2 tbsp Strawberry Jam Any fruit preserve works well.
For the Batter
  • 2 large Eggs Use flax eggs for vegan.
  • 1/4 cup Milk Non-dairy milk can be used.
For Frying
  • 2 tbsp Butter Coconut oil is a non-dairy substitute.
For Garnish
  • Powdered Sugar For dusting; can be omitted.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • hand mixer
  • Shallow dish
  • Skillet
  • paper towels

Method

Step‑By‑Step Instructions
  1. Soften the cream cheese at room temperature for about 15 minutes. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar, using a hand mixer to whip until smooth and creamy.
  2. Take two slices of your chosen bread and spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture on one side of each slice. Layer fresh, sliced strawberries on top and drizzle strawberry jam over them. Top with the second slice and press gently.
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. This egg wash will help create that golden, crispy crust when frying your sandwiches.
  4. Carefully dip each assembled sandwich into the egg mixture, ensuring they're thoroughly coated. Allow any excess egg wash to drip off.
  5. Heat butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once melted and bubbly, place the coated sandwiches in the skillet. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them drain on paper towels. Dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
