Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by heating 1 cup of milk to a warm 110°F. Once at temperature, mix the milk with 2 ¼ teaspoons of active rise yeast and a pinch of sugar. Let this mixture sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ cup of white granulated sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with 2 beaten room temperature eggs and ½ cup of room temperature cubed unsalted butter.
  3. Combine these ingredients until a soft dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, turning it to coat all sides. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm oven set to 200°F for 1 hour.
  5. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing together ½ cup of softened unsalted butter, 1 cup of packed brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon in a small bowl.
  6. After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately 16x12 inches. Spread the prepared filling evenly over the dough, then start rolling it tightly from the bottom edge.
  7. Once rolled, slice the log into 12 equal pieces using dental floss or a serrated knife for clean cuts.
  8. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking pan, ensuring they are close but not touching. Cover them with a towel and allow them to rise for another 20 minutes.
  9. Before baking, pour ½ cup of heavy cream gently around the rolls to add extra gooeyness.
  10. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the cinnamon rolls for about 28-30 minutes or until they are lightly golden on top.
  11. While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese glaze by beating 4 ounces of softened cream cheese and ¼ cup of room temperature unsalted butter until creamy.
  12. Gradually add in 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, mixing until the glaze is smooth.
  13. As soon as the homemade gooey cinnamon rolls come out of the oven, drizzle the cream cheese glaze generously over the hot rolls.
