  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar Can substitute with coconut sugar.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Can substitute half with vegetable oil.
  • 1 cup Milk Any milk or non-dairy alternatives.
  • 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract Can replace with vanilla bean paste.
  • 1 cup Hot Water Can be replaced with hot coffee.
Optional Add-ins
  • 1/2 cup Mini Chocolate Chips Dust with flour to prevent sinking.
  • 1/2 cup Ground Almonds For gluten-free version.
  • 1 tbsp Espresso Powder Can swap cocoa for coffee flavor.

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease an 8½ x 4½ inch loaf pan with butter or oil and line it with parchment paper.
  2. Melt half the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until melted, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and optional salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk room-temperature eggs and sugar until smooth. Stir in melted butter, milk, and vanilla until combined.
  5. Gently combine the wet and dry ingredients, being careful not to over-mix. Gradually stir in hot water.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Bake for approximately 39 minutes.
  7. Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely for 35-40 minutes.

Notes
