  • 1/4 tsp Salt Use sea salt for a gourmet touch
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar Consider brown sugar for extra moisture
  • 1 large Large Egg Room temperature eggs help blend better
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil Substitute with melted coconut oil for a healthier option
  • 1 cup Boiling Water Hot water assists in achieving the right batter consistency
  • 1/2 cup Milk Any dairy or plant-based alternative works
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract Pure extract is best for quality
For the Ganache
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Whipping Cream Key for making the silky chocolate ganache topping
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Dark chocolate chips offer a richer flavor alternative

Equipment

  • Donut pans
  • mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • measuring cups
  • Piping bag
  • saucepan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grab your donut pans. Coat each cavity generously with a flour-based baking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add in the large egg, vegetable oil, boiling water, milk, and vanilla extract to your dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Using a glass measuring cup or a piping bag, fill each cavity of the prepared donut pans about three-quarters full with the chocolate batter.
  5. Place your filled donut pans in the preheated oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Remove the pans from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Then, gently transfer the donuts to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy whipping cream over medium heat until it just starts to simmer. Pour the hot cream over semi-sweet chocolate chips in a bowl and let it sit for a minute before stirring until completely smooth.
  8. Take each cooled donut and dip the top into the glossy ganache, allowing any excess to drip off.
