Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 500 g Ground Beef or ground lamb for more authentic flavor
  • 1 cup Rice cooked, use brown rice for added fiber
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Oregano fresh for elevated flavor
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For the Crust
  • 1 package Phyllo Dough keep unused sheets covered
  • 1/2 cup Butter or Oil for brushing

Method
 

Preparing the Kreatopita
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté 1 chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add 500g ground beef and cook until browned, approximately 6-8 minutes. Stir in 1 cup cooked rice, 1 cup tomato sauce, and 1 tablespoon oregano. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  3. Brush the bottom of your baking dish with melted butter or oil. Lay down 5 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter or oil. Keep unused phyllo covered.
  4. Spoon the beef and rice filling evenly over the phyllo.
  5. Cover the filling with another 5 layers of phyllo, brushing each layer with butter or oil. Tuck the edges of the phyllo down into the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
