  • 1 pound Ground Beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 large Sweet Onion Yellow onion can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 large Orange Bell Pepper Can be omitted for stricter low carb version.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Cloves Can substitute with garlic powder (1 tsp) if in a hurry.
For Flavor
  • 1 can Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes Crushed tomatoes are a great alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika Can be omitted for simplicity.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano Thyme can be used as an alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Can double fresh garlic if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Skip if avoiding powdered spices.
  • Salt/Pepper Adjust to taste.
For the Cabbage and Cheese
  • 4 cups Green Cabbage Savoy cabbage can be used for a unique texture.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar/Jack Cheese Mozzarella can be swapped for milder taste.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large pan or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add 1 pound of ground beef along with 1 chopped sweet onion and 1 chopped orange bell pepper to the pan. Sauté until beef is browned and onion is translucent, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Stir in 3 cloves of minced garlic. Sauté for an additional minute until garlic is fragrant.
  4. Pour in one can of fire roasted diced tomatoes along with 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
  5. Gently layer 4 cups of chopped green cabbage over the beef mixture without stirring. Cover the pan and cook for 15–20 minutes.
  6. Once the cabbage is tender, sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar or jack cheese on top. Cover and let sit for about 5 minutes.
  7. Carefully uncover and give everything a gentle stir to combine. Serve warm.
