Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Prepare a greased 9x13-inch pan.
  2. Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a microwave-safe bowl.
  3. Combine 2 cups of quick oats, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, and 1 cup of brown sugar with melted butter.
  4. Set aside a third of the mixture and press the rest into the greased pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
  5. In a saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter and stir in 1 cup of brown sugar.
  6. Add 1/2 cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the butter and sugar mixture, whisking until smooth.
  7. Mix in 2 tablespoons of additional flour, cooking until the mixture thickens.
  8. Pour the caramel filling over the baked crust and sprinkle with the reserved crust mixture.
  9. Bake the assembled bars at 300°F (149°C) for 20 minutes.
  10. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
