Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour Or substitute with cake flour
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder Ensure it's fresh
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Full fat preferred
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 large Egg Yolk
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract Consider vanilla bean paste
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil Can replace with melted butter
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Room temperature
For the Glaze
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar Light or dark sugar can be used
  • 1 cup Confectioner’s Sugar

Method
 

Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and grease a 13x9 inch glass baking pan.
  2. Whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil; whisk until smooth.
  4. Cut the unsalted butter into the dry ingredients until crumbly.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture in two parts, gently folding until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for approximately 45 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool for about 15 minutes, then poke holes and prepare the glaze.
  8. Melt brown sugar and butter in a saucepan, then whisk in confectioner’s sugar and pour over the cake.
  9. Let the cake sit for 30 minutes to absorb the glaze before slicing and serving.
