For the Dough
  • 1 cup water provides moisture for a soft yet firm dough
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter adds richness and enhances flavor
  • ¼ teaspoon salt elevates taste, balancing sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar builds flavor in dough and coating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour gives structure to churro texture
  • 2 large eggs essential for richness and binding ingredients
For the Coating
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon infuses warmth and depth
  • ½ cup granulated sugar sweetens with an inviting crunch
For Frying
  • 2 inches vegetable oil necessary for frying
For Dipping
  • 1 cup Nutella adds a velvety, chocolate hazelnut delight, warmed

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • Piping bag
  • candy thermometer
  • frying pan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by warming Nutella in a microwave-safe bowl for about 15-20 seconds, until pourable but not too hot. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water, unsalted butter, salt, and granulated sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then remove from heat and stir in all-purpose flour until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes, then add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly until smooth and slightly sticky.
  4. Prepare the cinnamon-sugar coating by mixing granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  5. In a deep pot, pour enough vegetable oil to fill about 2 inches deep and heat to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors.
  7. Fry churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. While warm, roll churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated and serve with warm Nutella dip.
