For Frying
  • 2 inches Vegetable Oil Any high smoke point oil can be substituted.
For Dipping

Equipment

  • microwave-safe bowl
  • medium saucepan
  • Piping bag or zip-top bag
  • Deep fryer or heavy pot
  • candy thermometer

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by placing your desired amount of Nutella into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, stopping to stir every ten seconds until the Nutella is smooth and pourable. Set it aside for later, ensuring that it remains warm and ready for dipping.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches a rolling boil (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Mix vigorously until a smooth ball of dough forms (1-2 minutes). Let the dough cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. After cooling, add 2 large eggs to the dough, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Ensure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon to create your cinnamon-sugar coating. Set this mixture aside.
  6. In a deep fryer or heavy pot, pour enough vegetable oil to fill it about 2 inches deep. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
  7. Using a piping bag or a zip-top bag, pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil. Fry each strip for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Once fried, carefully remove churro bites from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  9. Present your Nutty Churro Bites warm on a serving platter, accompanied by the melted Nutella for dipping.
