- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, 1 large egg, melted butter, 1 cup of pumpkin puree, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and uniform, then press the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, beat 8 ounces of softened cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually mix in the remaining 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and 4 cups of powdered sugar. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the pumpkin spice filling over the cake base, spreading it evenly. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the edges are set and the center jiggles slightly. Allow to cool completely in the pan.
- Prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating 8 ounces of cream cheese, 1/4 cup of butter, and 2 cups of powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Once cooled, generously spread the frosting over the cake, and let it set for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes
For a less sweet frosting, reduce the powdered sugar or add a touch of sea salt for balance. Consider chilling the frosted cake for enhanced flavor.
