  • 1 pound Ground Beef can substitute with turkey or plant-based meat
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms chopped; use cremini or button
  • 1-2 cups Cheese shredded mozzarella or cheddar
  • 1 medium Onion diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • Spices salt, pepper, and optional herbs
Pita and Sauce
  • 4 pieces Pita Bread whole wheat or gluten-free options
  • 1 cup Tzatziki Sauce store-bought or homemade

Method
 

Tzatziki Sauce Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of yogurt, half a finely diced cucumber, 1 crushed garlic clove, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Filling Preparation
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a splash of olive oil. Sauté 1 diced onion and 2 minced garlic cloves for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add 1 pound of ground beef and 8 ounces of chopped mushrooms, cooking until the beef is browned.
  3. Season with salt, pepper, and any desired spices. Stir well to incorporate.
  4. Reduce heat to low, sprinkle with 1-2 cups of shredded cheese, and stir until melted.
Pita Pocket Assembly
  1. Gently cut a pocket in each warm pita bread.
  2. Fill each pita generously with the beef and mushroom mixture.
  3. Top with tzatziki sauce and serve immediately.
