  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Freshly ground is best.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh garlic can be used if preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Fresh onion can be used as an alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Swap with smoked paprika for a deeper taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme Fresh thyme can be used but double the quantity.

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and dried thyme. Mix well until you have a uniform spice blend. Set aside the mixture for later use.
  2. Lightly spray the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray. Create a foil ring by crumpling aluminum foil into a coil and place it at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Pat the whole chicken dry with paper towels. Generously apply the prepared spice mixture all over the chicken, including inside the cavity.
  4. Place the seasoned chicken on top of the foil ring in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. Transfer the cooked chicken onto a broiler-safe pan. Preheat your broiler and broil the chicken on high for about 4 to 5 minutes for crispy skin.
  6. Let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before carving to allow juices to redistribute.
